How do I obtain a Pistol Permit?

The Norwalk Police Department only issues 60 Day Temporary State of Connecticut Pistol Permits to bona fide Permanent Residents of the City of Norwalk.  Non-Resident Property/Business owners are not eligible and must apply to the town in which they reside.  You Must be 21 years of age at the time you are fingerprinted.  See the listed steps below and follow in that order.

 

STEP # 1 -   You Must first complete a Pistol Safety Course that has been approved by the State of Connecticut Special Licensing and Firearms Unit that includes "Live Fire" and receive a certificate. STEP # 2 - Complete a State of Connecticut Pistol Permit application (form DPS-799-C) and have it Notarized.  Answer all questions. Incomplete answers can be subject to a denial or arrest for False Statement as indicated on page 4 of the application.

STEP # 3You MUST Pre-Enroll with the State of Connecticut Criminal History Request System and pay for your State of CT and FBI fingerprint background checks before you can be fingerprinted. This site is called the CCHRS Flexcheck system.  If you fail to pre-enroll, you will not be fingerprinted as the machine will not open.  This is NOT the Pistol Permit Application, that is in Step # 2 link.  This is to get fingerprinted.

ENTER SERVICE CODE – E91E-8915  (Norwalk Police Temporary Pistol Permit code) to get started. This code is only for Norwalk Residents.

Complete the required information and pay the State ($75) and FBI ($13.25) fees online (no longer collected at the Police Dept.).  

PRINT OUT – APPLICANT TRANSACTION NUMBER (ATN) – YOU MUST BRING THIS TO THE FINGERPRINT APPOINTMENT!!!

You will need to bring the completed and notarized application (and all materials listed in the instructions) along with the Application Transaction Number (ATN) and pay the $70 fee to the Norwalk Police Department at the time of fingerprinting. If you are missing any documents, you will not be processed and will have to rebook an appointment.
