A minimum of 65 degrees must be maintained at all times. Any temperature less than 65 degrees Fahrenheit shall be deemed injurious to the health of the occupants.

The Health Department oversees a larvicide program that treats catch basins and stagnant waterways every summer.

4. Does the Norwalk Health Department test drinking water?

The Health Department tests well water (not city water) for bacteria only on a fee-for-service basis. Tests for chemicals or other elements must be done by a private laboratory.

5. Does the Norwalk Health Department identify ticks and test them for Lyme disease?

The Health Department will identify ticks that have been removed from a person's body. Those ticks identified as deer ticks are forwarded to the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station for Lyme disease testing.

This service is free to Norwalk residents and has a nominal fee for those who live out of town but choose to bring the tick to Norwalk. Results of the Lyme testing can be expected to take at least five weeks.
