lobby of Norwalk City Hall. At this time, Mayor Rilling and the Mayor’s Energy and Environment Task Force will be presented a $15,000 check for city-wide participation in the Clean Energy Communities program.
Mayor Rilling and the Mayor’s Energy and Environment Task Force are happy to announce that the
$15,000 Bight Idea Grant will be used to fund a free Light Bulb Swap for residents. The Light Bulb Swap will take place on Saturday, September 19, 2015 in the Community Room of Norwalk City Hall from 9 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Norwalk Eversource electric residents, with identification, may bring up to five incandescent light bulbs in any condition and exchange them for new, energy efficient LED bulbs free of charge. In addition to the light bulb swap, representatives from Eversource and Energize Connecticut will be on-hand to answer questions and provide information about further actions residents can take to save money by making their homes more energy efficient. Additional LED energy saving products such as night lights and specialty bulbs will be available for purchase at a discounted rate.

"The City of Norwalk is excited to have earned its first Bright Idea Grant and to use that grant to give
residents a way to cut energy costs at home. These LEDs use up to 85 percent less energy than
incandescent light bulbs.” said John Kydes, Chairman of the Mayor’s Energy and Environment Task
Force. “Community participation is critical to helping our city reach its energy goals. With the support of our community, there are no limitations to what Norwalk can accomplish.”
In 2014, the City signed the Energize Connecticut Clean Energy Communities pledge to reduce municipal building energy consumption by 20 percent, attain 20 percent of municipal electricity needs from renewable sources, and take other actions to support the deployment of clean energy by 2018.
Through the Clean Energy Communities program, residents and businesses that use Energize
Connecticut energy efficiency programs helped the community earn a $15,000 Bright Idea Grant. Grants may be used toward a community-selected energy saving project, such as this light bulb swap.
Norwalk earned its first $15,000 Bright Idea Grant through high resident participation in Home Energy Solutions?, a convenient in-home service featuring Eversource-authorized energy specialists who perform a thorough energy assessment, make on-the-spot energy improvements including air sealing and lighting upgrades, and provides a comprehensive report detailing additional saving opportunities.
The Mayor’s Energy and Environment Task Force has coordinated the use of the Bright Idea Grant for the September 19 light bulb swap.
