Norwalk, CT (June 24, 2015) - - Commuters who take the East Norwalk Railroad Station will have an additional two months to park at the St. Thomas School parking lot at 203 East Avenue. Thanks to the collaboration between Mayor Rilling and the Norwalk Parking Authority, the owners of the lot have agreed to extend the parking availability through August 31st for up to 25 parkers.
St. Thomas the Apostle church has had an agreement with the Norwalk Parking Authority since 2007 to provide parking for commuters for the East Norwalk Train Station. Earlier this year, the church had notified the Parking Authority that they did not want to renew the agreement. Originally, the current agreement was due to expire on July 1st. Subsequent to discussion prompted by Mayor Harry Rilling and the Norwalk Parking Authority, the church agreed to extend that deadline until the end of August 2015.
The Norwalk Parking Authority is urging commuters to use alternative railroad parking in South Norwalk due to the extremely limited availability of parking at the East Norwalk Station. Alternatives include the Webster Parking Lot, which is 2 ½ blocks from the South Norwalk Railroad Station, and Madison Street, which is 1 ½ blocks to the South Norwalk Railroad Station.
