BANDS OF HEAVY RAIN MOVING THROUGH CONNECTICUT, WINDS GUSTING ARE CAUSING ADDITIONAL POWER OUTAGES…
At 9:45 AM radar showed a solid line of showers and some thunderstorms covering most of the State stretching down the East Coast to off shore of New Jersey. This band of moderate to heavy rain has stalled over Connecticut as the final remnants of Tropical Storm Nicole move North Northeast towards Long Island. South winds are currently gusting to 40 MPH along the Eastern CT coast and are also gusting to near 40 MPH inland across higher elevations in Eastern CT. CL&P and UI are reporting just under 23,000 outages at this time. Total storm rainfall currently ranges from less than 1” in far Eastern CT up to nearly 6” in far Western CT
The area of heavy rain now located over the State is forecast to linger an hour longer in Western CT. Once the remnants of T.S. Nicole move through our area, the rain is expected to quickly taper off from southwest to northeast between 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM. Heavy rain during the next few hours however may cause additional urban flooding and the strong winds will cause some additional tree and powerline damage as well as additional power outages in Eastern CT. Travel in Connecticut will continue to be difficult with ponding on roadways and low visibilities during torrential downpours.
