Norwalk Receives Grant from Connecticut Public Utility Regulatory Authority
Funds will be used to Upgrade Ability to Show Public Meetings on Public Access TV.

NORWALK, CT — July 11, 2013 — The Connecticut Public Utility Regulatory Authority has awarded Norwalk $101,071.02 to upgrade the information sharing technology in its Council Chambers. The fund will be used to replace the chambers sound and video system, cameras, amplifier and recording system and public display screen.

The award is part of the State Public, Educational, and Governmental Programming and Education Technology Investment Account.

The grant application was undertaken on behalf of the City of Norwalk by its Information Technology Department as part of its effort to upgrade the quality of audio visual systems within the Council Chambers, including the City’s ability to deliver satisfactory video and audio to cable television subscribers.

In recognizing the grant, Karen Del Vecchio, Director of the Information Technology Department praised the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority for recognizing the merit of Norwalk’s application. “The Governmental Program and Educational Investment Account provided us with the means of demonstrating a project that will serve all Norwalk citizens with improved connectivity with their City Government. Upgrading the audio and visual standards of our programming will greatly enhance the viewing of City Council meetings.” Ms. Del Vecchio credited the Norwalk Information Technology Department E-Government Coordinator Larry Manzi for the success in obtaining the grant. “Larry Manzi took a personal interest in understanding the parameters which guided the grant application. He undertook the project of application in addition to his normal work assignment and ultimately guided the project to its successful conclusion.”

The grant funding is expected to be delivered to the City within the coming month. New equipment is expected to be installed in Council Chambers within the next sixty days.
