[ARCHIVED] The Norwalk Historical Society is taking part in CT Open House Day

Norwalk Historical Society Celebrate CT Open House Day

Saturday, June 11, 2022  from 12:00pm – 4:00pm

NORWALK, CT – The Norwalk Historical Society will be celebrating CT Open House Day 2022 with free admission to both Mill Hill Historic Park and the Norwalk Historical Society Museum. Experience Norwalk’s rich history with a visit to both locations between 12:00pm – 4:00pm on Saturday, June 11, 2022. Walk-ins welcome! Registration is only required for the guided tours at Mill Hill Historic Park at 12pm, 12:30pm & 1:00pm – register at www.NorwalkHistoricalSociety.org

At Mill Hill Historic Park, take self-guided tours of the Norwalk Historical Society’s award-winning exhibition, “Norwalk’s Changing Communities 13,000 BC – 1835”, the c.1740 Governor Fitch Law Office, and the c.1826 Downtown District one-room schoolhouse.  Stroll through the Mill Hill Burying Ground and the Colonial Herb Garden, all with sweeping views of the Norwalk River. Interested in a guided tour at 12pm, 12:30pm or 1:00pm, register at: www.NorwalkHistoricalSociety.org.

At the Norwalk Historical Society Museum, take a self-guided tour of the museum’s nine exhibitions that highlight Norwalk's rich history. Exhibitions include: “Caught in the Crosshairs: The Secret of the Norden Bombsight”, “Destination Norwalk: African-American Migration from the South, 1940 – 1970”, “Eating off the Landscape: The Farrington-Lockwood Dessert Service”, “Form, Function, Family: Silver from the Norwalk Historical Society and City of Norwalk Collections”, “Margaret Hoyt Smith Norwalk’s First Female Architect”, “New Deal, New Day: WPA Artists at Work and Play”, “Norwalk Collects: Celebrating Four Historic Collections”, “Norwalk: Portrait of Diversity”, and “Self and the World: Experiencing Photography in 19th-Century Norwalk”. The Norwalk Historical Society Museum’s Gift Shop will be open.

Mill Hill Historic Park is located at 2 East Wall Street, limited parking onsite – follow blue signs to additional parking.  The Norwalk Historical Society Museum is located at 141 East Avenue with parking and entrance from the Norwalk City Hall parking lot. The museum is the brick house with blue doors, next to the Norwalk Health Department.
