The Norwalk Health Department’s Childhood Immunization Program is back! The program provides age-appropriate vaccines for children ages birth to 18 years. Clinic sessions are held on Tuesdays, by appointment. The goal of the program is to make vaccines available and accessible to protect children from vaccine-preventable diseases and promote the well-being of all.

Well experienced, knowledgeable registered nurses coordinate the Childhood Immunization Program by reviewing vaccine records and administering vaccines to children. State-supplied vaccines are administered at no cost to children residing in Norwalk. The Childhood Immunization Program serves as a safety net service, particularly for children who haven’t yet established a medical home. “This program is a breath of fresh air to ensure a healthy community and a safe environment for all school-aged children.” says program coordinator, Pauline Pochette, RN.

Vaccines have made a major impact globally, preventing devastating illnesses caused by viruses such as smallpox and polio, both of which had killed millions of people.  Other diseases, including measles, mumps, rubella, varicella, diphtheria, and tetanus are seldom seen, particularly in the United States, largely due to vaccination.
