In support of recovery from the remnants of Hurricane Ida, the City of Norwalk will provide a special “flood damage” bulky collection next Wednesday, September 15, and Thursday, September 16. Residents must contact Customer Service by 4 p.m. on Monday, September 13 via phone (203-854-3200) or email (customerservice@norwalkct.org) to schedule a collection. This special collection is open to all residents, except those in the Sixth Taxing District.
All materials must be placed curbside by 6 a.m. on Wednesday, September 15, as trucks will only pass by once. For residents situated on private roads, flood damaged bulky items must be brought to the nearest City street intersection. Customer Service can provide specific details to residents.
For a list of acceptable and unacceptable items, visit norwalkct.org. Residents are advised the following items will NOT be accepted during the special flood damage collection:
- Yard Waste, including storm debris
- Tires
- Propane Tanks
- Construction Debris, including concrete, sheet rock, toilets, shingles, etc.
- Electronics, including TVs
- Freon Appliances, including air conditioners, refrigerators, dehumidifiers, etc.
Residents can dispose of storm debris at the Yard Waste Site, located at 15 S. Smith Street. A Disposal Pass is required. The Site is open Monday – Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. and Saturday 7:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. The site is closed on Sunday.
For previously scheduled Zone 4 (October) bulky collection requests, residents must contact Customer Service to inform the City that they are placing their flood damaged and previously scheduled bulky items for September 15 and September 16 collection. Zone 4 bulky collection will still occur next month.
Residents of the Sixth Taxing District are not eligible for the City special bulky collection since they receive year-round collection through their waste management vendor AFK Carting.
