The City is monitoring the forecast track and potential impacts from Tropical Storm Elsa. Residents are advised to be prepared for significant rains and high winds which may result in power outages on Friday. Residents and visitors should keep a close watch on the forecast for this storm and be prepared.

A small change in the forecast track of a tropical system can mean big changes in storm impacts, wind and rainfall amounts, so it’s important to stay aware of the track and forecast this week. One to three inches of rain is expected, but totals could be higher if the system slows down or the track changes.

Residents should be sure they:

• Have multiple ways to receive weather information from reliable sources.
• Review their personal emergency plan and make sure their insurance is up-to-date. 
• Check their emergency supply kit, which should contain food, water, prescription medicines, charging cords, batteries and other essentials to support their family for several days.
• Plan for elderly relatives and pets.
• Secure, or bring indoors, outside furniture and yard decorations, and clean up debris around their homes that could cause damage in higher winds. 
• Charge mobile devices and batteries, including spare batteries, for medical equipment. 

Members of the public are encouraged to sign-up for the City’s CodeRED Emergency Alert Notification System at norwalkct.org/codered. 

Residents can also download the CTPrepares App for Apple or Android devices. This app provides information and alerts in emergency situations and incorporates text messaging, email, and social networking, as well as allows residents to communicate with family members during an emergency. Receive real-time notifications including emergency news, state office closings, and public safety messages.

The American Red Cross also has an emergency alert app that can be downloaded with similar features and preparedness information.
