[ARCHIVED] City Hall Closed June 21 for Juneteenth

On June 17, President Biden signed the bipartisan Juneteenth National Independence Day Act into law. Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, the day when the last people who were enslaved in the United States were freed. This day was 2.5 years after President Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation.

Juneteenth, falling on June 19 each year, is now a Federal holiday. In recognition of this new holiday, all Federal offices were closed today, June 18. In order to rightfully honor and recognize Juneteenth, Mayor Rilling has determined that City offices will be closed on Monday, June 21.

Essential personnel will still report to work, as they do for other Federally recognized holidays. City Hall will be closed to the public on Monday. The Transfer Station and Yard Waste Site will be open 730am-3pm.  There will be no interruption to City garbage or recycling services. Scheduled evening meetings will also continue to be held remotely.
