To All City Employees:
It might be hard to believe but we are about to finish the fourth week of new operational protocols. I know this has not been easy for any of us, and, at the risk of sounding like a broken record, I want to again offer my gratitude to each and every one of you. You continue to show dedication and passion for the City of Norwalk during this pandemic. Thank you.
The operational protocols in regard to the closure of City Hall and reduced staffing are continuing into the next week, at least. This week we have resumed public meetings via the Zoom platform. Those who staff Boards or Commissions have already conducted training sessions with this technology. Staff who wish to view a meeting can do so on the City of Norwalk YouTube page.
I ask that you please continue reaching out to your direct supervisors with questions or concerns. Each day has its new challenges, and we are trying are very best to balance the needs of the community with the health and safety of our employees.
On March 14, our first resident tested positive for COVID-19. As we near one month since that day, we are now at nearly 650 cases. The death of our first resident was reported on March 20, and now, 24 people have died. This pandemic will continue on into the foreseeable future, and no matter our job and no matter where we live, the nonstop news around coronavirus may be causing stress and anxiety. I encourage you to reach out to our Human Resources team for guidance on how best to navigate these difficult times.
We will get through this eventually, and I appreciate your continued efforts to provide essential services to our residents. I know they appreciate it as well.
I wish you all a Happy Passover and a Happy Easter.
Mayor Harry Rilling
