On Tuesday, December 10, 2019, Norwalk Mayor Harry W. Rilling announced that STAR, Inc., Lighting the Way… and the Norwalk YMCA as the beneficiaries of the 2020 Mayor’s Ball, which will be held on Friday, January 31, 2020.
“Now in its twenty-seventh year, the Mayor’s Ball is an annual nonpartisan, nonpolitical event that brings people together. The money raised will help benefit two great organizations that are doing amazing work for the community,” said Mayor Rilling. “This is one of my favorite events every year. I hope the public will support these remarkable organizations and join us for this wonderful event.”
STAR, Inc., Lighting the Way… is a not-for-profit organization established in 1952 to serve individuals of all ages who have intellectual and developmental disabilities including, Down syndrome and Autism, as well as providing support services to their families. STAR creates opportunities for individuals to live full lives with independence, freedom of choice, and personal growth by providing support, services, and advocacy. Headquartered at 182 Wolfpit Ave. in Norwalk, with an office at 111 Elm St. in New Canaan, STAR supports families throughout mid-Fairfield County. STAR annually serves over 600 individuals from birth through their senior years. They aim to inform and encourage the community to recognize and appreciate the value of all individuals. Their goal is inclusion for all people.
The Norwalk YMCA, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, is committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Y is for everyone. Y programs, services, and initiatives enable kids to realize their potential, prepare teens for college, offer ways for families to have fun together, empower people to be healthier in spirit, mind, and body, prepare people for employment, welcome and embrace newcomers and help foster a nationwide service ethic. With a mission to “maximize the personal potential of all individuals in the community,” the Y works side-by-side with its neighbors to make sure everyone, regardless of age, income, or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive.
The Mayor’s Ball, established as a non-profit charitable institution in 1993, is held every January to help raise funds for local organizations. The 2020 Mayor’s Ball will be held on Friday, January 31, 2020, at 6:30 p.m. at Serafina, The Italian Center, 1620 Newfield Ave., Stamford, CT 06905.
Individual tickets begin at $150, and sponsorship opportunities start at $500. Reservations with payment will be accepted until January 24, 2020, or until the event sells-out. Please make check(s) payable to the “Norwalk Community Benefit Fund.” Tax-deductible contributions to the Mayor’s Ball can be made at any time.
