[ARCHIVED] Fight the Flu!

Flu Postcard 2018

Fight the flu this Fall, and get your flu shot from the Norwalk Health Department! Flu season is fast approaching, and the best way to protect yourself and your family is to get a flu shot. The Health Department’s trusted professionals are here to help with our 2018 flu clinics and walk-in hours.

The Health Department will hold two clinics for the public this year:

  • Thursday, October 11, 10 am to 12 pm
  • Tuesday, October 16, 5 pm to 7 pm

In addition, the Health Department will be open for walk-in hours every Thursday from 1 pm – 3 pm, beginning October 18.

All clinics will be held at the Health Department (137 East Avenue, Norwalk), and no appointment is necessary.

You can receive the flu shot for no charge with most insurances. The Health Department accepts Medicare Part B, Aetna, Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Cigna, ConnectiCare, and United. Please bring all your insurance cards with you. Otherwise, standard seasonal flu shots cost $25, and high-dose flu shots (an option for patients age 65 and older) cost $50.

The flu vaccine protects against seasonal and H1N1 flu, and anyone older than 6 months of age is encouraged to get their flu shot. When coming for their flu shot, all clients should try to wear short sleeves for easy access to the injection site.

In addition to getting your flu shot, you can take several other simple steps to help stay healthy this winter:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water
  • Cover your nose and mouth when you sneeze or cough
  • Stay home if you feel sick

In addition to clinics that are open to the public, the Health Department also works with employers to hold quick, efficient flu clinics at worksites, providing a valuable benefit to employees.

If you have a question about the flu vaccine, call your physician. For questions about the community flu clinics or to inquire about arranging a vaccination clinic at your worksite, please call the Norwalk Health Department at 203-854-7776.
