Press Release 2018 DOG LICENSES

NORWALK— Last year the City of Norwalk issued close to 2700 dog licenses. All of these licenses must be renewed for 2018. Any new dogs over six months of age or currently unlicensed, must also register at this time.

The 2018 dog licenses will be available June 1, 2018 in The Norwalk Town Clerk’s office.  All currently registered dog owners will soon be receiving renewal notices in the mail. The hours to purchase these licenses are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  On Thursday the hours are 8:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Renewals may also be mailed in. Please include a self addressed, stamped envelope for your return.

Per Connecticut State Statute 22-349: All dogs must be licensed with the city. Owners of unlicensed dogs could be subject to a $75.00 fine.

The 2018 license is valid from July 1, 2018 until June 30, 2019.  Fees for neutered and spayed dogs are $8.00, and the fees for unneutered and unspayed dogs are $19.00. In July, the fees increase by $1.00, and each month thereafter, another $1.00 is added to the original fee. If expired, a current rabies certificates signed by a veterinarian must be presented to the office to comply with state law.  If a dog has not been registered before, a neutering or spaying certificate must also be presented for the first time when registering if the dog has been altered. The Town Clerk Office is located in room 102, City Hall, 125 East Avenue.

For the 14th. consecutive year, the Norwalk Town Clerk and the Norwalk Animal Control Division will be co-sponsoring through the Connecticut Veterinary Medical Association, a low cost Rabies Vaccination Clinic. The vaccination shot is available to all dogs or cats at a cost of $20.00 (cash only).  This event will be held Sunday, June 3rd, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Norwalk Animal Control Shelter (Dog Pound), 13 South Smith Street. All dogs must be leashed and all cats must be in carriers.  (This event will take place Rain or Shine.)

The Norwalk Animal Control Shelter (dog pound) will also have dog licenses available on sale.  The shelter is located at 15 South Smith Street, South Norwalk, CT.  The hours are Monday through Friday, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  On Saturdays it is open by appointment only from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  The telephone number is (203) 854-3240.
