The Norwalk Health Department laboratory provides services and consultation in response to public health concerns. Water quality testing, tick identification, and diagnostic testing for sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) are major functions of the laboratory.
Water Microbiology

In total, 15 Norwalk beaches are tested for bacteriological water quality weekly (and more often as necessary) from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Click here to see the swimming status of these beaches.
Tick Identification

Citizens should bring ticks to the Health Department during normal operating hours for identification. Ticks are screened by the laboratory, and those identified as deer ticks are sent to the Connecticut State Agricultural Experiment Station for Lyme disease testing. This service carries a nominal fee for non-Norwalk residents. Click here for fees.
Sexually Transmitted Disease Diagnostic Testing
The Laboratory supports the Sexually Transmitted Disease Clinic by providing clinical testing and specimen referral related to the diagnosis of STDs. Click here for the hours of operation of the STD Clinic.
