Beach Water Quality Testing: Keeping You Informed

The Health Department monitors beach water quality weekly between Memorial Day and Labor Day. The laboratory staff measure the quality of the beach water using an indicator bacteria (Enterococci), as set forth by the CT Department of Environmental Protection and the CT Department of Public Health.

  • Commercial: Please call the Commercial Shellfishing Hotline at (203) 874-0696 to check the status of areas immediately prior to shellfishing. This hotline has the most up-to-date information concerning commercial shellfishing in the Norwalk area.
  • Recreational: Please call the Recreational Shellfishing Hotline at (203) 838-9807 to check the status of areas immediately prior to shellfishing. Areas may close due to rainfall or sewage events. The hotline has the most up-to-date information available.
