Tenement House Definition
The definition of a tenement house is any house or building, or portion thereof, which is rented, leased, let, or hired out to be occupied, or is arranged or designed to be occupied or is occupied as the home or residence of three or more families living independently of each other, doing their cooking upon the premises and having a common right in the halls, stairways or yards.
Registering Your Property
The owner of each tenement house located in the City of Norwalk shall register with the Department of Health on or before the first day of December each year. The
Tenement House Registration Form, furnished by the Department of Health, should include the:
- Address of the tenement house
- Number of apartments contained within the tenement structure
- Owner's name and personal contact address
At the time of registration, the owner shall pay the Department of Health an administrative fee for each tenement house registered.
