After a Home Fire
Fire Recovery Information
Going through a fire can be a terrible and often devastating experience. If the fire was severe or if someone was injured, then you are probably feeling overwhelmed at this point. The feelings of shock, loss, grief and confusion that often accompany this crisis are completely normal but can make the difficult process of recovery physically and mentally draining.
It is important for you to realize and remember as you struggle to return to a normal life that you are not alone... and our purpose in bringing you this "After the Fire" handbook (below) is to help you through the recovery process.
The Norwalk Fire Department regrets that you have a need for this information, and we hope this information will help make this experience a little more bearable. Our goal is to help make a confusing situation a little more manageable or a frightening one a little less overwhelming.
American Red Cross- Disaster Assistance
The American Red Cross provides assistance for residents impacted by fires and other disasters. Red Cross Disaster Assistance Team (DAT) members will meet with residents to do an intake and provide client assistance cards for lodging, food and replacement of contents. DAT members aren't able to come to the scene immediately, they'll make arrangements to meet with residents.
To contact the American Red Cross for disaster assistance, please call 1-877-287-3327. This is a 24/7 assistance number.
In addition to supplying fire victims with access to various recovery resource organizations, the Fire Victims Fund also supports families through the donation of basic-need items, as well as gift cards. We work with the American Red Cross to ensure resources and assistance are provided after their financial assistance has been provided.
