Special Victims Unit

Responsibilities

The Special Victims Unit is commanded by a lieutenant. Formerly, known as the Youth Bureau, this division is responsible for the investigation of crimes committed by and against children, child and adult sexual abuse, crimes against the elderly, missing persons and crimes committed against individuals with special needs.

Educating the Public

The Norwalk Youth Bureau provides instruction to all Norwalk fifth graders through the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) Program. This educational program is intended to improve the relationship between the Norwalk youth and the police through a frank, open discussion of contemporary issues impacting our youth.

The division also supervises the school resource officers (SROs), who are assigned to full time to all Norwalk High Schools, as well as shared among the Middle and Elementary Schools.
